I have an affinity for certain animals. Butterflies and elephants to be specific. I tend to show my love for them with jewelry and on random pieces of paper while I doodle. The butterfly is a symbol for so much. Different cultures all over the world have special meanings for the butterfly. Transformation, freedom, the soul, good luck, beauty and rebirth all are associated with the butterfly. At this point in my life freedom is the symbol that I connect with most. When I put on a hair clip, ring, necklace or bracelet with this creature on it, it is a constant reminder to work for a true freedom. Freedom to do what I want and be who I please.

I'm always up for last minute trips to Napa. All I need is a drinking buddy and a full tank of gas. As much time as I spend in wine country it never gets old. If this is what heaven is like, I'm ready, bubbles from Domaine Chandon ,macaroons from Bouchon Bakery and beautiful landscapes as far as the eye can see. If all goes as planned I will be spending many summer weekends somewhere between Napa and Calistoga,sipping wine, basking in the sun and swimming in mineral pools. Where will you be?

Its been a long time! Funny my first post back is a nail post but you know I love my nail art. I got bored with my short nails so I've been spending every other Thursday at the shop getting my nails did. Gel not acrylic if you were wondering. The gel isn't as hard on my nails so its worth the extra $$. I Currently sport these orange slice inspired nails but I think I need something a little more complex like these. And yes I will fill you in with the past few months.

I have never been the type to roam art galleries they seem so stuffy and the white walls drive me crazy. Lots of people drinking free 2 buck chuck and nodding their heads trying to give off the illusion that they have a clue what the artist was thinking. I prefer street art and the street artist. Every street in Oakland you can find a piece of art if you look. The idea of art for the people and the anonymity of the artist I admire. On many occasions the sole highlight of my day has been a new piece someone painted over night on a wall. I would love see these by Monsieur Qui on Broadway and 17th.

I've been wearing a lot of headbands lately. Boring stretchy headbands from the beauty supply store. I own three colors, black, Kelly green and tan. OK, the green really isn't Kelly green just plain boring green. See, this right here is a prime example of how lazy I've been these past few months with my appearance. Making lame excuses and trying to make my accessories sound more interesting then they really are.

Determine to make my vow of reinvention come true. I spent an afternoon toying around with the idea of the turband like this one. I watched the Milly by Michelle Smith spring 2011 show , she has some great turbands, a few times and I really felt like I could rock this and replace my headbands with something a little more chic. Then I was remind how huge is. The turband is super chunky. Still determined to make this look work. I figure out that with a thin vintage scarf a few twists,turns and tucks. WAHLA! goodbye headbands hello tiny turband.

Look what I found outside my door the other day. This little fella crying his little heart out. Unfortunately I can't keep him my dog wont allow it. She is beyond jealous. I spent the afternoon walking my neighborhood trying to find its home. Some of my more suspect neighbors claim he belongs to them. Thinking back I shouldn't have let them have him. Who lets their tiny puppy free to wander the streets? Every morning since I search for him hoping he will show up again so I may keep him.

Four months ago I decided it would be fun to head out to Las Vegas and hang out at a little convention called the Curvy Revolution. Two months ago I figured that it would an amazing experience if I went as a sponsor. In 15 days I will be driving down to LA to pick up my girl and head out to Vegas. I am beyond excited that Buxom Vintage will have a booth in the exhibition. I'll be bring a ton of new vintage dresses,vintage handbags and more with me. 3 years ago I thought it would be a great idea to start a blog. And it was, I just wasn't quite ready to put my all into it or even a little into it. Its been a tough 3 years personally and this blog has been a way to keep me going. Now life is calm (knocks on wood) and so much has changed I feel like this a great place to really focus on what is important to me. I love this idea of taking your precious time to hand make something for someone more then likely you don't even know. The excitement knowing a package is coming for you but you don't know when or what it is. A little piece of sunshine in the mail. Here we go!

Hiding in the depths of my picture files I found this ootd from back in November when it was sunny in the Bay. I absolutely love this cape, found it a few years ago and have never worn it. A hoarding tendency exposed that I like to refer to as "letting it marinate". The pattern and color are great too. I'm not a huge fan of red usually it screams 'hey I'm here look at me'

and I'm so not that chick that craves attention. The pattern is almost hypnotic it reminds me of a Swedish textiles like these, these and these . While I'm not a fan of the cape closed I love it worn open and off the shoulders. And shall I introduce my standby hat of the season that I wear every day, literally. My new year is on the horizon. 12 days to be exact. Lately, I've been reflecting on where I am on my journey in life. This year I stayed true to my motto, "Do you bitch!". I did me and continue to do so. But, I want more. I crave for new adventures and seek life's lesson yet to be learned.

I have a strong desire to make my way in this vast ocean I've leaped into. I want so much in my life but am restricted by this concept of time. Last week I broke down my days and saw where all my time went, how much time I waste. I've become an addict. I'm ashamed. I'm upset with myself. Ok, maybe not an addict I only scored 49 on the internet addiction test (take it here). But I do have a problem. My bookshelf is full of books waiting to be read, my water colors are cracked from lack of use, dusty cookbooks, I still can't speak fluent Spanish or Hindi. How am I going run away to India if I can't speak the language? Guitar? nope still can't play that. I have so much to do and time is not on my side.

That said my internet days are limited. Social networks in general have become like work. Aside from seeing pictures of my "real" friends I find very little joy in logging on. Do I really need to keep up with the goings on of 700 people that I don't know. I think not. I have enjoyed the chats with all of you that I have met online. I've meet some cool chicks and hope to meet more. I just can't afford to spend to the same amount of time that I have in the past on these networks.

No more hours spent reading every blog bookmarked. No more hours spent gawking at handbags my bank account won't allow me to purchase. You Tube done. Face Book will be deleted, ok maybe downsized. No more Flickr. No more browsing amazon.com just because.
I know it will be difficult to not log on but the thought of enriching my life is a wonderful motivator.
Well here is to will power.
Let's see how it all works out.

Imagine- snuggies, fireplaces, tube socks, hot toddies, ice cream cake, girlfriends and Sex and the City 2 on repeat. This is how I spent a good portion of Thanksgiving weekend. Amongst the Adriana Castro handbags, Halston Heritage caftans and Brian Atwood pumps there were a few pieces that I'm having a hard time getting out of my head. One is the money pouch that Carrie had during her trip to the souk. I know not so fabulous but I happen to be looking for a wallet so this pouch stuck. I can't find the exact pouch but these are so cute.

I have this grand idea that I will become a brunch person. Every Sunday I will roll out of bed around 11ish. Throw on something easy and relaxing. Last week I took a trip to California Academy of Sciences in the City. It was 75 degrees so I decided to wear this vintage kimono top that had been sitting in my closet for months. I love the pale yellow color and the crochet trim on the sleeve. Looking back I should have chopped of the tie. I think I prefer it open. My new bling from Forever21 also made the trip. I have a thing for huge but simple jeweled earrings right now.

I should be spending this time finishing my closet that currently looks like a 5 year old used it as a playground. It will have to wait a day or two there is research to be done. What are basics? Different style gurus say different pieces are essential to your wardrobe. I'm not sure I agree. Honestly none of these lists complied would work for me on their own. I find myself editing these lists heavily. Also,there are items here that I would never pick up let alone buy.

Tim, I have yet to find a fitted blazer that agrees with my boobs, waist and arms at the same time. I know you say take it to the tailor and I say I'm way to lazy for that. Fitted blazer scratched off list.

Sturdy loafer? No Thank You Mr. Mizrahi. White jeans? I can't do it. I personally think that plus size women look better in darker bottoms. But, please prove me wrong ladies if you disagree. Matching sweater set, really? A matching sweater set that I would wear where? It doesn't fit my job or my personality.

Rachel, Rachel Rachel while her list is more my speed I could never take it as the gospel to buying the essentials for your wardrobe. Body con dress, biker jacket and black wool fedora cute yes but not for me.

Again I ask what are your basic? Or do you take the style gods word as gospel?

There are a few items that are constant on everyone's list that I believe could be honest to God essentials in everyone's wardrobe. Dark denim jeans that fit. Whatever style your prefer I say skinny, boot cut, wide leg or boyfriend. LBD. Do I really need to say anything? Everyone knows they should have one in their closet. Period. And lastly but very important is a good fitting bra. I can't stress enough the importance of your girls standing up and saluting everyday in every outfit. If you are questioning where to splurge on building your foundation for you wardrobe I say invest in a few good bras first.

Therefore, I'm still on the hunt to create my own wardrobe essential list.

It was Saint Augustine who said "Humility is the foundation of all the other virtues hence, in the soul in which this virtue does not exist there cannot be any other virtue except in mere appearance. " Of which I 100% agree. For my purposes I will need to switch a few things around, add and delete a word or two. And I'll say, "Basics are the foundation of a well functioning closet, in the closet in which basics do not exist there can only be chaos and a poorly dressed being." Which is how I am describing myself at this moment. I have started this process of cleaning out and organizing my closet this weekend. This task usually is fast and painless for me. As I sorted clothes in piles, keep,mend and donate I noticed that I lack the basics of a wardrobe. I have magnificent pieces with nothing to pair them with. And then the light went on *ding* this is why I never wear 95% of the items in my closet. No wonder why I'm in a rut and bored to death with the way I look. The task at hand is to figure out what are the basics? Personally I think its a little different for everyone. I guess this will be somewhat of a self discovery or wardrobe discovery no style discovery. Yea, a style discovery. What are my basics? What are your basics?

I know its late but I worked way to hard to not show off my Halloween Costume. Halloween was never a big holiday for me. And I have yet to find any decent plus size costumes worth buying. These last few years I've become more and more excited about making my own and out doing myself from the year before. I defintiely think that this year's Venetian Carnival theme beats the Demon of Ms Hannigan (from Annie, come on!) from last year. So it all started from this pile of feathers and glue.

I should be posting pictures of the freakishly great party I went to last Saturday. Or the beautiful pumpkins from the pumpkin patch on Halloween. But I'm not feeling myself lately. Maybe its the change in the weather California is schizo right now. Hot then cold, I'm ready for cold. I got a huge dose of vitamin D from playing with my pup this afternoon but its not making a huge difference in my mood. So, I'm going to give in for today, lay in bed and watch a movie from my Netflix queue The Duchess or maybe La Vie en Rose. Paint my nails a bright shade of Rare or Collide, sip some chai and fall asleep.

So I've done it. I have taken the first step in my master plan of working for myself, living free again and finding the passion that was misplaced. I've up and gone part time at my job. This is going on week 2 and I now understand how important it is to wake up everyday with an agenda that will get you a few steps closer to your goals. Last week was a mess. Hours spent sleeping, shopping (with money I no longer have) and day dreaming.I won't go as far and say that it was a waste, I needed to have some chill time. But now, today, this moment is all about working the plan to snatch the stars right out of the sky. In my plan there is ample time to update my blog that at times is forgotten. 373 miles the distance I have been driving to the nearest Faith 21. Or so I thought. With my monthly trips to LA diminishing as summer comes to an end I did a little research. Much to my surprise the nearest Forever 21 with Faith 21( a huge Faith 21) was only 30 minutes away. I've never been much of a mall rat, even with my new discovery I probably won't frequent either. But its good to know that the Great Mall in Milpitas is close to feed any hankering for Faith 21. Sorry to disappoint but I didn't find much either but a cute dress and some dark acid wash skinny jeans. And some pretty gum balls!

Running thru crowded airports, waiting in unbelievable long security lines, squatting over toilets, dozing off in tiny seats in between fights for arm room pretty much describes my travel experiences for this year. I've done it all in heels,wedges,flats, dresses,skirts and jeans. Yet have I found the perfect combination for stylish comfort with an emphasize on comfort. As mush as I would love to wear my sweats that I paint in and a wife beater with my slippers I don't think I could actually walk out of the house let alone get to the airport without feeling like a bum. So I plan on piecing together an outfit the next step up, ok maybe a few steps up. This long sleeve lace sweat top is a must DIY and the harem pants are in the mail. Hopefully they arrive before I leave.

8am Saturday morning where were you? Nursing a hangover? Me at Target. Why don't ask but I was there and my reward was to find the Isabel and Ruben Toledo and Stephen Burrows collections greeting me. Nothing was quite my style besides the $25 Toledo beach towel that I couldn't justify purchasing being that its freezing in the Bay right now. I did however set a personal record of walking out the door only spending $29. And I got the cutest E.L.F book of eye shadows for 5 bucks.

How I spent my Summer vacation part 1

Dear Diary,

I decided to write about my amazing summer vacation. The sun has been good to me. I'm 3 shades darker something like a fine chocolate. Now its not over so don't worry I'll have plenty of time to lay out, read, relax and drink gin and tonics. Our first trip was to Temecula,Ca for some wine tasting. I know what your thinking why would I go to wine taste anywhere but Napa since I live so close well Diary I like wine and all wine is good wine. Or so I thought. I've been called bougie more then a few times in my life. I call it having standards. Napa is my standard and Temecula while fun didn't live up to my standards. Don't worry Diary I did contribute to the economy, met some cool locals and had an amazing time. We found two nice wineries and drank drank and drank some more. The day ended watching the sunset over a vineyard having a meal while chatting up a wine maker. Well Diary that's all for now.

Clear skies and warm weather just a few reasons to take a stroll around the neighborhood. After tea and breakfast buns at one of my favorite bakeries I spend a a little time wandering and found my dream car from eons ago. While my taste of cars has slightly changed I couldn't help but love this lovely shade of green. Just around the corner was this huge wall of roses. Well I'm not sure if they were roses but they were huge and beautiful. Whatever they are the wall provided a pretty background to show you my new favorite bag and my tiger dress. Don't laugh I love it! Roar!

An afternoon spent browsing on ETSY has uncovered lots of cute vintage shops for me. But stumbling upon jewelery designer,Morgan Mallett was like uncovering a diamond among the rumble. Her work is simple yet complex,organic and bold. Her inspirations of geometry from the 60s, cell biology and electronic music are very clear in her work. Being the earring whore that I am I see myself in the very near future having at least one pair of these amazing earrings.

A morning little trip to the Fillmore District landed us at the cutest little bakery ever La Boulange. With orange & cinnamon morning bun in hand we headed to the closest bookshop for a little browsing. Leaving the bookshop emptied handed the Marc Jacobs store called out to me "come my love, come" and I could not resist. After went seemed like only a 5 minute shopping spree my photographer pulled me out of the store with only a birthday gift in hand *sad face*. Even though there was no M.J bounty for me it was sunny out and we had a chance to see some beautiful houses.

Saturday was solo day so there are no shots of me just my perfect day in Hayward,Ca. Bright blue skys followed me during my stay downtown. Most of the shops are closed and the area has a 80s early 90s mall feel to it. I almost want to call it a ghost town but I think that would offend someone. Clothes, bookstore, movies (with to much popcorn! one person can't eat a large popcorn alone I found out) and end the day with yummmy acai yogurt ! oh and more shopping.

We jumped on the road and headed to the desert with our final destination being Las Vegas. I'm not a big fan of Vegas like most. This is my closet I'm not really embrassed to say even though maybe I should be. It's filled with so many things I really don't know what I have. Everything is on the floor mixed together like a stew of handbags, wedges and jeans.OK..maybe my closet is pretty bad. My goal this spring is to live with only having 40 items of clothing. I lied 40 items of clothing that is not amazing and vintage.Dwindling down a closet from 100s to 40 is no easy task. I had to stop and have a little fun so here is my Down to 40 photo shoot.
